A Model Based Edge Location with Subpixel Precision

چکیده
Estimation of edge features in an image (sub-pixel position, direction, curvature and change in intensity at both sides of the edge) starting from the calculus of the gradient vector in each pixel is not exact, even in ideal images. In this paper we present a new edge detector based on an edge and adquisition model that does not assume continuity in the image values. Edge features are obtained with high precision using this detector, even in noisy images. When noise is too high, we also propose an iterative method to enhance the image quality, and keep precision in the features obtained. Finally some synthetic and real examples are shown.

Evaluation of Subpixel Line and Edge Detection Precision and Accuracy
An extensive analysis of the quality of the extraction results of a subpixel line detector and a subpixel edge detector is carried out. The localization quality of line and edge points in the presence of noise is analyzed analytically, and new formulas describing this relationship are derived. Tests on synthetic noisy images show the formulas to hold very well in practice. Experiments on real i...
متن کاملSubpixel Line Extraction Based on Blurred Edge Model and Adaptive Least Square Template Matching
Linear features such as hydrological object boundaries, roads and the boundary of other man made objects are very important for geospatial information extraction/analysis from remotely sensed imagery. This paper deals with subpixel accuracy extraction of linear features. Least square template matching (LSTM) is adopted as the computational tool to fit the linear feature with a scalable slope ed...
متن کاملIntensity Discontinuity Location to SubPixel Precision
Lateral inhibition processing of an image yields subpixel precision in the location of intensity discontinuity edges in a digitized image. The method is illustrated using a 512 x 512 x 8 bit image.
متن کاملSub-Pixel Edge Detection in Character Digitization
We introduce an algorithm for extracting edge points from a high-quality gray-level image of a glyph. The edge is described as a list of points with sub-pixel precision, roughly one pixel apart. When applied to images obtained from a high-resolution scanner, the precision is essentially that of the human eye.
متن کاملMorphological Corner Detection. Application to Camera Calibration
In this paper we study the application of the Affine Morphological Scale Space (AMSS) to corner detection with subpixel precision. Corner detection techniques are in general very sensitive to noise, so some kind of filtering is usually needed to remove noise before estimating the corner location, however, the filtering procedure changes the location of the corner, so the filtering introduce err...
